In the seasons before giving my life back to Christ, I faced trail after trial. I couldn’t figure out why bad things kept happening to me, when I was trying so hard to make life better. I didn’t understand why doors closed in my face; why new ones rarely opened; why I had been lied to, deceived, used and abused. It left me feeling lost, confused and alone. I wondered what I was doing wrong; why I faced so much opposition when my intentions were always for the good. It seemed like everyone else’s life was great, except mine.
Romans 5:12 “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned…”
During this season I learned that my neighbor was Christian (see The Importance of Evangelism). I told her about the nightmares, and she invited me to visit her church. Initially I wasn’t sure I could be helped, (but now I know that was the deception of the enemy trying to discourage me from Truth.)
I went to church again and filled a visitor’s card. A few days later I received a phone call from a group leader. I confided in her, then said, “I don’t understand why things are so difficult for me. I know there must be something I’m missing or not understanding, but I don’t know what it is…”
She replied, “I’m glad you said that because you’re right.” This is where she introduced me to the importance of knowing God, establishing a relationship with Him, and seeking to grow spiritually. She prayed with me and shared spiritual truths. I had no idea how much my life was about to change forever and for the better, but I am so grateful it did.
Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
If you’re facing the same trials over and over, you may be missing the message God is trying to send you. The enemy knows this and continues to attack, throwing you into a cycle of similar decisions and the same results. But if you align yourself with the word and will of God, you will receive His victory in every circumstance. When we’re in our early stages of spiritual maturity, sometimes we think:
“Well, that person knows God better than I do” –
“He hears their prayers, why doesn’t He hear mine?” –
“Good things like that just don’t happen to me.”
But those are lies from the enemy! Those thoughts go directly against what the Word of God tells us! But it’s up to you to find the truth in God by seeking Him, and allow Him to rescue you. This comes by having a prayerful relationship with Him and allowing Him to be involved in every area of your life. And it helps to have spiritual support along the way – when the group leader called me that day, little did I know she would become my spiritual mentor and greatest friend! My relationship with her helped strengthen my relationship with God tremendously, thank You Jesus.
Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
When you’re in the midst of struggle, you’re more likely to look at the circumstances that surround you. One thought leads to another and eventually the mound becomes a mountain. You become overwhelmed, feeling as if there are just too many things against you, and it’s hard to see how you can overcome so much at once. But in God you can! So don’t worry about “how” – focus on “Who”.
Psalm 121:1-2 “1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
We live in a world of freewill so we must learn how to use our freewill for the Kingdom, and defeat the enemy. Understand that you have to option to either choose God or to choose the world. When you choose God, He will guide you onto right paths.
Yes, you will have to consciously make decisions to turn away from sin, but take it one day at time with the grace and strength of God through prayer. Please don’t believe the lie that you have to become perfect overnight. The Holy Spirit of the Lord will help you become who God created you to be. Thank Him every time you succeed! And if you fail, repent and try again – just don’t give up.
Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
When you chose the world you will face adversity. The enemy is of the world and that’s its playground. Sin opens the door to the tactics of the enemy. When you intentionally engage in sin, you won’t know which way to go in life because you’ve tuned out the Lord’s voice. You close the door to heaven and open the door to attack. Ultimately you end up wandering aimlessly, even if you think you have a plan. You won’t understand where the will of the Lord is, and that’s where battles rage.
1 Peter 1:13 “Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
But life doesn’t have to be so difficult for you! When you chose prayer, you open the doors of heaven to act upon your life; to fight spiritual battles on your behalf; to give you favor and grace. Those who seek His face diligently and sincerely will hear His voice and then heed His direction. When you are in the will of God, He will bless you. The enemy may try to attack but God will protect you from so much more, than when you chose to go at it alone without the Lord.
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Look up, surrender yourself and your life to God. He will open doors where there seems to be no way. Act in the Spirit and not in the ways of the world. When you have God, His Holy Spirit will fill you and you will hear the Lord in your soul, you will recognize His gentle nudging into the proper direction, eliminating confusion and doubt. Chains of oppression will break, and doors of blessing and abundance will open for you!
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
But it’s up to you to decide. Man cannot save you, but God can. You can continue to use your freewill and live in a world that lacks spiritual revelation and freedom, where you’ll continue to face those same trials. Or you can chose to give your life back to God, to pray consistently, seek understanding of His word, and to live by it. 💕 God bless you!
PRAYER: Father God, we come to you in the mighty name of Jesus, and ask that You remove the scales from our eyes; reveal Yourself to us; guide and lead us in the way we should go. Do not allow us to take a step in any direction that has not been ordained by You, Lord. Lead us onto righteous paths. Close doors that need to close and only open those You would have us walk through. We bind and rebuke anything in life that is not from you; we bind and rebuke any ungodly thoughts or emotions. Help us to apply Your word in our lives. Giving us freedom and victory in the mighty and precious blood of Jesus!
Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
