© Praying out an infestation

Some years ago, our home became infested with ants. These weren’t just any ants. These were large, flying queen of the hive ants! And there were tons of them.  Somehow they seemed to be coming through the vent in the ceiling, as well as through the water pipes, all within our master bathroom, which meant they were also making their way into our bedroom and our bed – it was an absolute nightmare!  I couldn’t use the bathroom without being careful to walk on the floor or use the toilet without first inspecting it, and I couldn’t sleep well because I had found them crawling on our bed, which we were forced to move away from the wall, just in case.

We called in an exterminator and also used household products to try to get rid of them, but it just seemed as if they continued to arrive in swarms.  Desperate, I had no idea what else we could do, and that’s when the Holy Spirit began calling me into prayer. PRAYER!  I knew God had the power and control over everything and could make the infestation go away.

I began praying but nothing happened right away.  I prayed at the very least that the infestation would stay away from our bed and that it would not spread to the rest of the house where our children were. But I continued to focus on prayer because in my spirit I knew that the answer was there. And let me tell you, the Lord moved on our behalf as we continued to pray in faith, and one day the ants disappeared completely without a trace, as if they had never been there at all, thank You Jesus!

During this trial, the Lord spoke to me and told me that I had DOMINION over all the creatures of the earth. These are the verses that the Lord brought to me:

Genesis 1:26-30 (ESV)

26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.  28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

It is no coincidence that God repeated the word DOMINION twice! It was so that we could drill in into our minds and write it on our hearts and believe it with our souls that we were given dominion over all the things of the earth!  This means that we have the power to control all the living things of the earth and yes that includes power and authority over the pests that might try to take over our homes!

According to the Miriam Webster dictionary, the meaning of dominion is supreme authority, sovereignty. The meaning of dominion according to Dictionary.com is the power or right of governing and controlling; sovereign authority; rule; control. Vocabulary.com also offered a definition to dominion and even gave reference to the bible, stating its meaning as power through legal authority. Let me also give a definition of legal: established by or founded upon law or official or accepted rules.

God is our Creator and He has the first and the final authority over all things, and the Lord decreed from the beginning of time that we would be given authority over all creatures of the earth, Amen! This means we have the power to tell creatures of the earth what to do and where to go. That includes declaring with your God-given authority that pests must leave your home!

Jesus had the power to create miracles signs and wonders right before our eyes.  We even saw him rebuke a fig tree in,

Mark 1:12-25

12-14 “12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.”

20-21 “20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!”

Jesus follows this up by saying,

22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

God has given us the power and authority to perform miracles, signs and wonders in His mighty name!  The only thing the Lord asks is that we have immovable faith, and that means having faith without any doubt. The Lord will not work in doubt, so if you pray over anything and have even just the slightest bit of doubt, you can hinder your own prayers.  We must have complete and total faith over the words and promises of God.

John 14:12-14 (NIV) “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

So now you know that you have the power and authority over the creatures of the earth.  Let’s now focus on the power of our own tongues.

Proverbs 18:21 (NIV) “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

The bible warns us that whatever we say has the power to come into existence. This is why we should not speak negatively against ourselves or against others.  But at the same time, this power of the tongue gives us the power to bind and rebuke things out of our lives as well.  We see above that Jesus reminded us of our power to do great works, and then we see our tongues, our words, have power to speak things in and out of existence.  There is another Word that speaks to this power and it is found in the following two verses:

Psalm 82:6 “I said, “You are ‘gods’; you are all sons of the Most High (God).”

Romans 4:17(b) “As it is written: “He is our Father in the sight of God, in whom (Abraham) believed – the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.”

We are children of God and have been given the power an authority to speak things that are not as if they were.  We have the power, authority, dominion to speak those critters and pests OUT of our homes!  We have the power to bind and rebuke anything that does not belong and anything that is not of God, and God declares that His peace is ours, so if we do not have peace in our homes for any reason, we have the power to speak peace and action in our lives. We have the power to rebuke fig trees that do not produce fruit, and there is no fruit in an infestation!

Finally, God gives us a promise found in Psalm 91:10, “…no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.”

This is a power-filled promise directly from God Himself that nothing will plague our homes, and that evil will not conquer us at any time or in any way.  God set us free from darkness, and anything that tries to come against you will not prosper (Isaiah 54:17).  The only thing that stands between you and the receipt of these promises are your own faith.

Nothing has more power than God! And He has declared since the beginning of time that we would be given authority – all we have to do is receive it in faith, speak it over every part of our lives, and believe that what we are saying is true and will come to be! Try it for yourself, but remember God will not move in doubt – have faith even if it is as small as a mustard seed.  Know that God will move this mountain for you and heal your land!  And even if you don’t see something right away, do not grow weary, continue to stand strong in your faith and in the power of God daily and know that He WILL move on your behalf, Amen!!  God bless you!

Father God, we thank You that You have given us dominion over all the creatures of the earth!  We thank You that You have given us the power and authority to speak things that are not as if they were.  In the power of Your name, we declare any pests or critters OUT of our homes, in the mighty name of Jesus!  We cast those pests and critters away and rebuke their very existence!  May they flee from our homes, flee from our lands, and flee from our lives, in the mighty name of Jesus, never to return again!  Pests, we cast you away in the mighty name of Jesus! You have no power and no place in our lives!  We cast you back out to where you came and out to farthest ends of the earth!  Father God we thank You that no evil will conquer us and no plague will come near our home!  We pray Your Holy Spirit to sweep through our homes and remove anything that does not belong!  We bind and rebuke anything that is not of You!  We thank You Father for Your faithfulness to answer our prayers and move mountains on our behalf!  We give You all the honor, glory and praise, in Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen!
