As I have worked with woman and share the word of God, inevitably this question arises:
“If I’m saved now, why do I keep facing temptations and trails? What’s the point if I’m fighting the same battles?”
If you have found yourself asking similar questions, you’re certainly not alone. This seems to be a common query among the newly saved. Sometimes they feel they’re walking in the same revolving door as they face a challenge or eagerly await the rescue from a seemingly impossible situation.
Truth is, the world is full of trial and temptation – but not so much for the Christian, at least not once the Christian truly receives the Holy Spirit.
Let me explain…
At the fall of the enemy, God refused for that situation to happen again. Hence earth. This is where we have the choice to follow to follow sin or seek righteousness. When Adam and Eve committed their first sin, it was through the freewill given them as the fallible humans that they were, and in that they brought the separation of God and man.
This separation is where we experience freewill in action – either for good or for bad. The earth is a necessary learning ground, where we can choose faith and life, or doubt and death. This protects heaven and the righteous who share it. This earth is where the separation of good and evil takes place – and rightfully so… And the blessing from the Lord is that we always have the opportunity to sincerely repent – Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning…”
In the world, sin has become so “normalized” that too many have become accepting of it- one sin here and there can’t be that bad, right? Humanity seems to get away with it and every sin thereafter takes another step further.
However, when we repent – true, remorseful, heartfelt repentance – and we dedicate & return our lives back to the Lord to whom we truly belong, His Holy Spirit will begin to take over in our lives. However we still have the freewill to either apply the Word or quench the Holy Spirit. Acts 3:19 “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord…”
In quenching the Spirit, we turn away from righteousness. For example, the Holy Spirit may convict you to apologize to someone but you might convince yourself otherwise and choose not to follow through. The Holy Spirit may urge you to go to church or read the Bible, and you might refuse, choosing TV or social media instead. At that point you are tuning out the voice of God that’s there to lead you into righteousness – that’s quenching the Holy Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 “Do not quench the Spirit.”
It’s the voice of the Lord that leads you away from temptation, so that temptation will tempt you no longer! God says He has made a way for you out of every sinful act there is, but it’s ultimately up to you to choose what you’ll do, i.e. freewill. 1 Corinthians 10:13(b) “…When you are tempted, the Lord will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
Every time you turn away from sin you begin to reject it within your spirit until it affects you no more. The enemy knows your sinful desires because it has watched you your entire life. But when you turn away from sin, the enemy will soon flee. James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the enemy and it will flee from you.”
And in regard to trial: trials of the children of God are very, very different from the trials of the lost sinner. Any weight it could bear is much lighter than those who chose sin over righteousness. As we see in Matthew 11:30, Jesus says, “…I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls; for My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matter of fact, it’s the sin nature that brings about trial. It’s sin that opens the door to the attacks of the enemy! But for the truly repented saved, trials aren’t worldly trials – they are challenges designed to help you grow and learn to overcome, and they will NOT drown you the way they can when the enemy attacks the sinner. Isaiah 43:2 “…when you pass through the rivers, I will be with you… they will not sweep over you…”
But you have to choose.
Remember, the Holy Spirit will give us spiritual sight and the gift of discernment to know right from wrong. Good living will bear fruit and blessing, but sinful living breeds oppression.
It’s a conscious choice to receive victory in every trial as it has been won through Jesus on the cross, or to get burned walking aimlessly with the world…
The closer you draw to the Lord, the more protection you receive, because you’ve made the decision to allow heaven to act within your life! And the extent of your faith has a lot to do with it as well…
1 Corinthians 2:5 “That your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
I pray the Lord blesses every reader with revelation within this word… God bless you all…❣
Father God, we ask that You would fill us with Your Holy Spirit, lead and guide us in the way we should go, Lord. Convict us when are wrong so that we may do what’s right in Your sight. We ask for blessings of strength Father God, that we may overcome and be delivered from the world; that we would not grieve Your Holy Spirit with whom we were sealed for redemption. Help us to see through spiritual eyes, not carnal ones; and to not grow weary in doing good, for the harvest is plentiful.
We know that Your plans for us are good, Lord; Your plans to prosper and not harm; plans to give us a hope and a future. We thank You Father God for the goodness and blessings you already have in store for Your children! Bless us with peace and faith in knowing You work for the good of those who love You and who have been called according to Your purpose, and we thank You for the victory already won in You! In Jesus’ mighty and precious name we pray, Amen…
